The Peace Center of
Delaware County.
a Place, a Space, a State of Grace in our own hometown
"An
important part of activism is that you actually have a hometown, or a
neighborhood, that you are a part of." Pete
Seeger, Journal for living, No. 26
The Peace Center of
Delaware County is gathering place, a community space, and state of grace for
meeting, planning, dreaming, and living Peace. The
role of the Peace Center is to build a peace and justice community in Delaware
County that serves the needs of local activist organizations, families and
individuals seeking to integrate peacemaking into their lives; and
congregations, organizations, and individuals who link the search for spiritual
peace with the movement for peace on Earth. The Peace Center is a place to
share meals, conduct meetings, sponsor educational forums, celebrate and party,
recite poetry, dance, sing, build, and experiment in living Peace. The
Peace Center is also an incubator for ideas on how to strengthen the peace and
justice movement, function collectively, provide training for activism, secure
and store important tools, and develop a peace and justice movement that
promotes racial, religious, and cultural diversity. The
Peace Center is under the care of the Chester Quarterly Meeting of Friends. It
is a project of, and operates within the physical space, of the Springfield
Friends Meeting. A Steering Committee, comprised of local members of the
Society of Friends and local peace and justice activists, is responsible for
the fiscal and program operation of the Peace Center. Robin Lasersohn and Terry
Rumsey serve as Co-Chairs of the Peace Center.
